Project SEARCH
Project SEARCH is an innovative school-to-work transition program for high school students with significant disabilities. The program is dedicated to workforce development that benefits the individual, community, and workplace. 83% of graduates found employment following Project SEARCH within 6 months of graduation. Children’s Hospital Colorado and UCHealth are host businesses and provide opportunities for students to learn workplace skills and emerge from the program ready for employment.
To be eligible to apply to Project SEARCH, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be enrolled in a local high school special education or transition program
- Are nearing their last year(s) of school services
- Have completed graduation requirements but deferred a diploma
- Have a strong desire to work
- Are comfortable working in a health-care setting
- Qualify for services through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and their local community-centered board (CCB)
- Are willing to travel to and from the program independently (using public transportation, Access-a-Ride, carpooling, etc.)

Children’s Hospital Colorado
- Schedule: Project SEARCH operates 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
- Instruction: The Project SEARCH curriculum focuses on employability skills including money management, health and wellness and workplace readiness.
- Travel training: Students are trained on both RTD and Access-A-Ride.
- Internships: Students have two internships in the hospitals each semester.
